What the community says
4.8 average · 4 reviews
“Found three dansals within walking distance on Poson night. The directions were spot on and saved us wandering around.”
“We run a kanji dansala every year and listed it here for the first time. So many more people stopped by — adding it took two minutes.”
“The thoran map is brilliant. We planned a whole evening walking between the big pandols and grabbing drinks along the way.”
“Lovely, clean and easy to use. Would love even more listings in the outstation towns — but it’s growing fast.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about finding, visiting and listing dansals this season.
Is Dansal.lk free to use?
Yes - completely free. There is no charge, no account required, and no payment to view the map, read the guides, or add a listing.
How do I find a dansal near me?
Open the live map and allow location access, or pan to your area. Markers show food and drink dansals, illuminated thoran and lantern zones, with serving times and one-tap directions.
How do I add my own dansal?
On the map, tap “Add a listing”, drop a pin at the exact spot, fill in what you’re serving and the times, and submit. A moderator reviews it and it usually appears within a few hours.
Are the listings accurate?
Listings are submitted by the community and reviewed before they go live. We work hard to keep them current during Vesak and Poson, but treat them as a helpful guide rather than a guarantee - call ahead where you can.
Do you cover the whole island?
Yes. Dansal.lk works anywhere in Sri Lanka. Coverage is densest where the community is most active - Colombo, the suburbs and the major towns - and grows every season as more people contribute.
When is the best time to visit a dansal?
It depends on the type. Kanji (porridge) dansals run early morning; rice and curry at midday and evening; drinks and sweets through the afternoon and night. Thoran and lantern displays come alive after dark.
