About Dansal.lk

Dansal.lk is a free, community-driven map of dansals — the roadside stalls where Sri Lankans give away food and drink during the Vesak and Poson festivals — together with the illuminated thoran (pandols) and Vesak lantern zones that light up the country at the same time.

Why we built it

During festival season the whole island comes alive with generosity, but finding out what is happening near you has always meant word of mouth and luck. We wanted a single, reliable place to see what is open tonight, what they are serving and how to get there — and to make it effortless for organisers to let their neighbours know.

How it works

Anyone can add a dansal, thoran or lantern zone to the map. Submissions are reviewed before they appear, to keep the map accurate and trustworthy. The map and listings are completely free to use, with no account required. We also publish in-depth guides on the meaning and traditions behind it all.

Community first

This project belongs to the community that uses it. The data comes from organisers and visitors across the country, and the more people contribute, the more useful it becomes. If you are running a dansal this season, please add it to the map.
